I have decided to return home, so there is no time to visit the Cabo de Gata parque. Of course this parque would be beautiful, but to do it as a quicky I would not prefer. I think I defenitely will return here.
The mountains are challenging me again!!!!
I headed for Nijar, the Correos, because there should be a parcel for me, my thin sleeping bag. At the Correos there was no parcel, and TNT informed me that the address was unknown, so the parcel is returned to sender. Above that, there is also no camping site in Nijar, the second time my map lied to me.
The wheather is good, it is early and I have only biked 50 km, so I go on to the north. The hills are burnt because of a fire of 2 weeks ago. It smells also burned. The flies are 'testing' me, especially when I go uphill.
In Mela I stop at a cafe restaurant. It appeared to be a center of the English community here in the region. The owner, Chris, invited me to put my tent on his premises. I accepted the invitation gladly. After 100 km, at the end of the day and with a preview of a region with almost no protected places to camp in the wild, this was a good opportunity. mattieu, the barman, appeared to be very friendly and hospitable. He invited me to join the bi-weekly quiz-night with the English guests. For €5 including a meal, I could not refuse this invitation.
At about 8 the quiz started. I was part of the team of 4 very nice people (Dorothee, David, Bob and Christine). The chicken curry was perfect and I had the chance to taste some remnants of the Yorkshire pudding. Both very good dishes.
The evening was a big succes, although we did not win. It is the people and the game that matter.
I thanked Chris and Mattieu for their very friendly hospitability, and I felt very much at ease.
Today: direction of Velez Blanco, towards these 'terrible' mountains.
