After Madrid i have been progressing very well. La Mancha is very hot and empty, and flat. I slept one time 'en el Campo', in an empty corn field. It was perfect. In Valdepenas the indicated camping site had disappeared, so I had to take a hotel, after 140 km and at 9:00 pm I did not have much of a choice.
Yesterday I was suddenly in the mountains again, the Sierra de Segura. Today I had to penetrate this Sierra more. My first gear did not function well and the map does not give enough indications about the mountains. After a long struggle I decided to take another route, to Malaga. I have a clear description of it, so that I know how long a road upwards will take. With this unfaithful gear at least I must be able to trust one thing.
